Writing a post on x, Preset Research claimed that OpenAI's O3 model ended the shutdown system to prevent itself from shutting down. It claimed that three models of OpenAI, including Codex Mini, did not obey the shutdown command; o3 did not obey the command seven times out of 86 successful commands. Similarly, KDX Min did not obey the command 12 times out of 42 successful commands. These three tools have been developed by OpenAI. The AI of other companies involved in this research followed the shutdown command and shut down itself as soon as the shutdown command was received, after the work was completed.
